Jeffrey Gale is a nationally and internationally recognized expert on school threat assessment. Gale is a former long-time New Jersey State Police officer and is the Director of the New Jersey Department of Education’s Office of School Preparedness and Emergency Planning. He provides direct support to New
Jersey’s schools to establish safe and secure school environments. Jeffrey has served as support staff
to the Governor’s School Security Task Force, represented New Jersey at the 2019 National
Governor’s Association Conference, was a member of the US Department of Homeland
Security/US Secret Service National Threat and Evaluation Reporting (NTER) Working Group,
and has presented nationally for the US Department of Education. He currently serves as an
advisory board member of the National School Safety Alliance, as co-chair on the NJ Juvenile
Justice Commission – School/Justice Partnership, and serves on numerous national and statewide
committees and working groups, including the NJ Office of Homeland Security and
Preparedness Domestic Security Preparedness Task Force. Jeff is a member of the Steering
Committee of the recently formed NJ Statewide Threat Assessment Team (NJSTAT) and is also a
member of its Operational Team. Jeff is a Master Trainer for the NTER program, holds
numerous other trainer certifications, and has developed and provided training both nationally
and internationally on a wide variety of safety and security related topics to over 50,000 school
staff/administrators, law enforcement officers, and public and private sector employees and
security professionals.
Jeffrey Gale served with the New Jersey State Police for 26 years, retiring in 2011 at the rank of
Captain. In addition to various assignments in uniform, he also served as a Detective, Firearms
Instructor, Range Master, Field Training Liaison, and Adjunct Instructor at the New Jersey State
Police Academy. During his career he has provided security for government officials, including
presidents and governors; critical infrastructure sites; and large venues and events, including
professional and collegiate sporting events and concerts.
