Susan Tellone
Susan is a certified school nurse with a MSN in nursing and BS in mental health and rehabilitation. She had worked in the Manasquan School district for years, and co- authored a federal grant for PROJECT SERV. In addition to nursing, Susan had many roles in Manasquan High School, such as crisis coordinator, anti-bullying specialist, and teacher.
Prior to becoming a school nurse, Susan was a psychiatric nurse for over 25 years, with a specialty in crisis screening. She was an educator at the University of Medicine and Dentistry for over 11 years, teaching the N.J psychiatric screening law, along with various other mental health topics.
Susan has developed a comprehensive crisis plan in her high school and her community as a result of a suicide contagion that occurred in her school between the years of 2008 and 20012. She has presented this plan at The National conference on Suicidality in Florida in 2009. She was also a keynote speaker at the Annual conference for Safe and Drug Free Schools in Boston in 2010, and presenter at the REMS conference in Washington DC. August 2011, the NJEA teachers conference in November 2014, and continues to present locally and nationally on this topic. Susan and her crisis team focused on the rebuilding of the Manasquan High School with a renewed focus on strength and resiliency of the students, faculty and community. After retiring from education, Susan became the Vice President of Programs and Community Education at the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County for several years . Presently she is the Clinical Director of The Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide.
