Rich has over three decades of experience as a classroom teacher, rural community organizer, public spokesperson, founder and administrator for social-emotional learning/character education programs, a senior member of community-based organizations, a university teacher in Perú, and equity work with revising discipline codes. He is a native of New York, fluent in both Spanish and American Sign Language, and brings a social justice perspective and vision to his work. His areas of expertise include school-wide discipline and student supports, classroom management training, cultural competency training, youth empowerment, and community-school relationships. Previously, Rich has been the Director of Education at the National School Climate Center, New York Regional Director of Peace Games (now Peace First), Director of Client Services at God’s Love We Deliver in New York, and has been a classroom teacher in elementary, middle and high school. Richard received his Master’s Degree from Columbia University. Most recently, Rich worked with Engaging Schools as a Consultant to schools and school districts. He supported schools with the recalibration and revision of district and school discipline codes, and school climate and culture issues. He has worked with schools throughout the New York City Department of Education, and school districts in upstate New York, western Massachusetts, and central Connecticut.
